BIO
Shane comes to filmmaking from a background in art direction and design-related image making, having found that his experience developed there, combined with an unending curiosity and constant drive to seek new experiences, could be applied directly to the craft of visual storytelling.
Prior to going independent in 2013, Shane spent over eight years in the Tokyo office of Wieden+Kennedy, He was a core member of the creative team behind W+K Tokyo Lab, the pioneering experimental audiovisual record label launched by W+K Tokyo in 2003. It was here that he developed and honed his interest and skill in the craft–editing and animating his way through a slew of music videos–developing an experimental, yet also highly commercial (this was the advertising industry after all!) approach driven by strong interests in music and style.
Shane is compelled by the mix of avant-garde and pop, of sound and vision, culture and commerce, east and west. He continues to be active as an art director and graphic designer, which directly informs his filmmaking practice, and vice versa.
EDUCATION
Shane holds a BFA from Art Center College of Design and is bilingual in English and Japanese.
