Sweet Recovery And Suculent Media Art
Monday was better. I recovered from the previous day. We went to some historic samurai homes in an old district of Kanazawa (Kagu). Later we saw the Kenji Yanabe exhibition in full effect, as well as the rest of the quite nice museum. There are a number of pieces worth mentioning, so I will elaborate later.
Yanabe’s show itself is also worth a good essay. As is Tatsuya’s performance which followed a little after.

Off To Kanazawa
Left for Kanazawa. The day started off most excellently as Tatsuya graced me with the new Noriko Tsujiko album on his ipod to listen to on the flight. The day later declined as I injested a mega-dose of kenji’s pot sandwiches, and ended up literally on another planet (in my mind anyways). I’d like to elaborate on this day later, as a lot happened, even if I don’t remember it so well.
And Shirley Tse: If you’re reading this, please marry me.

So I bought the PSP...
Met Kim and Tanner. I came from Kenji’s house after the party. I bought a PSP and two games (Lumines and Namco Museum) at Bic Camera in Shinjuku. We went to Tower. I bought a new CD by Bol. Eventually I made it back to Kenji’s in preparation to leave for Kanazawa in the morning.

Patrick Wolf
I spent the day in Shinjuku, in one record store or another, or one café / restaurant or another. I bought the new Patrick Wolf album. He looks poised to take over, with well-stocked and prominent shelving. And I hear he’s getting nice reviews from Pitchfork. I’m not sure what the release of his first album looked like in Japan, as I was in the US at the time, but over there it was a strictly mail-order affair for me, showing up in some record stores (perhaps only Amoeba) many months after the fact.

Archilab
Archilab was quite good. For some reason I am more interested in the work that came out of the late 60’s / early 70’s (superstudio especially) that what is going on today. Though usually I am unwaveringly in favor of, and excited by that which is going on here and now, and especially that which is yet to be.
I went to this show with Grace, who had a good time. The city view from the top of Mori tower never fails to disappoint either. They have the keep the exhibitions good in order to compete with that view, which in itself is probably more entertaining / eye-opening / fulfilling than most gallery shows one might attend.

Lazy Friday
Today was one of those days where it is really hard to work. In the aftermath of yesterday’s shit and sleeping too late, I seemed barely able to create like, 10 new storyboards, and didn’t even get to changing the animatic at all. Eventually all of studio had already gone home (by around 6:30 or 7), and I ended up in some gray space between work, and internet tomfoolery, going from mixi, to adobe illustrator, to myspace, to whatever shit.
At this point I always know it’s time to give up, that no matter how long I idle between work and internet, I’m not going to squeeze out one more modicum of productivity. Sometimes you just hit that point... It’s friday night, the whole office but you has evacuated, and you ain’t got shit to do. Just face it: You’re not going to get any more work done today. Quit sitting around pretending like you will.
Tomorrow I might go to Archilab. It ends on Sunday, and we’ve got free passes (Mori is a client). Also, Afra will perform in the evening. Also, I will hang out with my friend Grace during the day.

Hifana Shoot, Liquidroom
Shooting Hifana’s performance at Liquidroom tonight for use in the next DVD. There looks to be some serious tarento in the house. We’re covering it with something like 8 cameras. Going over to start shooting two hours from now.

The Amazing Koichiro Tsujikawa
We met Koichiro Tsujikawa today. He’s a really interesting guy, and I love his work. No site of his to link to unfortunately... try looking up his work yourself, you won’t be disappointed. His claim to fame is perhaps the Cornelius video for Drop.

Kenji Yanabe
Not much going on. I found the links to the artist I mentioned yesterday, whose name I couldn’t remember. His name is Kenji Yanabe. He will be taking part in a large exhibition at the Kanazawa Museum of Contemporary Art with an installation called kodomo toshi. We met with Elecrotnik today, and tried a new indian restaurant. Other than that, we are working mostly on stuff for Hifana. I did a demo in Eric’s class tonight. Two of the kids from the class will help us to shoot Hifana’s live show this saturday.
