Tokyo.Now Episode 4

We delivered Tokyo. Now Episode 4 to NHK yesterday. I will have to update with the on air date later. Collaborators this time included Agency Collective, and our recent intern and friend Mark Okon. This episode also features Afra’s digital breath video (which is almost two years old, but probably not too widely seen. Some screenshots are below.

Press Push Press

The new book Reinventing Music Video has featured a large amount of W+K Tokyo Lab work directed by +cruz in it. You will also see a brief mention of myself and Gino Woo aka woog, and also, lo and behold, a bonus quote about pakuri from Marxy within the section!!! This came as a total surprise to me, and leaves no doubt that his ideas have undoubtedly permeated the collective creative minds of the culturally and visually astute with an interest in Japan on a global scale: This book was written by Matt Hanson, founder of onedotzero, in the UK.

Aside from that, I must say that the output quality and choice of images shown in our section looks rather hideous and could hardly be considered fit for print. In every video featured, probably the most unflattering frames of the work are shown, and some of the process images seem low-resolution or even pixelated. Additionally, in a grandiose, full-spread image from Hifana’s Wamono featured at the begininng of the book, the seal with their name inscribed on it is cropped right off the top of the page, rendering it unreadable. All in all though, I guess any press is good press. Those looking for a much more positive take on things may want to have a look at John Jay’s new blog entry.
